Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu

I was really expecting to watch this Kamal starrer, given the big fan I am of his and also I like the songs immensely.  So, when doing my usual bi weekly shopping at Quality Groceries, I chanced to glance at the new Tamil DVD section and there I found it, a copy of the movie.  I knew it was too early for a DVD release, so it should be a first print taken at a theatre.  I was dismayed to realise that what I thought was right.  With great expectations, I came home to insert the DVD in my player, only to find that the player was not reading the disc, luckily the laptop did read it.

First impression was that the song “Uyirile enathu” could have been picturised better, and the makeup for Kamal around the eyes and the whole face as well throughout the movie is not what one would expect of a Kamal starrer. Its like nobody paid attention to this factor – Kamal is getting old and this movie shows it.  It is a huge mistake to compare this with Kuruthipunal and the way Kamal looked in that one, of course, he was younger at that time.

The plot line of the movie is good and Daniel Balaji’s acting has improved a lot, from his Chithi days to this pyscho role.  Gautham does his Hitchcockish prescence in the movie in the background of a dance song.  The talent of Prakash raj has not  been properly utilised.  The story line has a real detective theme behind it, which is a welcome change in a movie of this nature.

Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu – can be seen once, for sure.

    Hi DP,
VV is a rip-off of Bone Collector & secondly, Kamal’s make-up is deliberate, in dat he looks old. The idea is dat he’s a senior police officer & u don’t get to a senior position till u reach a certain age. Gautham wanted to depict this in his prime character & hence the artist Kamal, who was able to showing the experience thru’ age & character.
